Our Mission Statement :

Our Parish Mission statement is being developed in three parts:

  • The Church: to continue to develop meaningful worship in this ancient building
  • To work with and to serve our Local Community
  • Connecting to other people and promoting charitable giving in The Wider World
The Diocese of Chichester, of which we are a part, has a strategy with three aims: to grow numerically and spiritually, to re-imagine ministry and to promote the common good. We work with the Bishop and the local household of faith to pursue these goals.
We are aware of God’s call to us to build up the Kingdom and are working on a revised Mission Action Plan to try to articulate what we feel called to do. Some of the most important ways we feel God is directing us are to:-
  • Look seriously at church growth, particularly our need to attract committed and energetic younger adults
  • Offer more opportunities for ‘enquirers’ to find out more about the Christian faith
  • Further develop our charitable giving and our links with the wider world, including forming a link with a church in another part of the world
  • Maintain and build on our involvement with local people, local issues and village life
  • Further develop our ecumenical links with other churches in the area
  • Work to improve our respect for creation and our understanding of how this is integral to our faith, including achieving at least a bronze level ‘Eco Church’ award through A Rocha
  • Further work on inclusivity, making it clear both to ourselves and to visitors that we welcome absolutely everybody, whatever their background, age, ethnicity, gender or sexuality and enabling us to minister to all in our local community
  • Maintain and further develop our existing and strong use of lay leadership
  • Find better accommodation for our work with children and young people and develop ways to work better with older children
  • Further develop our links with local schools, particularly St Margaret’s Primary School in Rottingdean
  • Work towards refurbishment and re-ordering of our church building to make it fit for purpose over the coming decades
  • Ensure that our income and reserves are used ethically and in ways that directly relate to our mission
  • Work further on our worship, particularly in the areas of music and our encouragement and involvement of children and young people and their parents.
